Portland Review’s Spring 2018 Reading at the IPRC

Join us as we celebrate several amazing local authors on Friday, May 18 from 7-9 pmat the Independent Publishing Resource Center, one of Portland’s coziest venues. The event will feature readings by Margaret Malone, Santi Elijah Holley, and Susan DeFreitas and is sure to be an evening of sumptuous words and gripping prose. There will be an optional but suggested donation at the door.

About our readers:

Margaret Malone is the author of the story collection PEOPLE LIKE YOU, Finalist for the 2016 PEN Hemingway Award and Winner of the Balcones Fiction Prize. Her stories and essays have appeared in The Masters ReviewPaper Darts, and The Missouri Review, among others. A co-host of the artist and literary gathering SHARE, Margaret teaches creative writing at Literary Arts and in the Certificate Program at the Independent Publishing Resource Center.

Santi Elijah Holley has contributed fiction, essays, and journalism to Tin House, VICE, Longreads, and elsewhere. He is a regular contributor to The Portland Mercury, and a recipient of the 2017 Oregon Literary Fellowship for nonfiction.

Susan DeFreitas has never been able to choose between fantasy and reality, so she lives and writes in both. A first-generation American of Caribbean descent, she is the author of the novel Hot Season, which won the 2017 Gold IPPY Award for Best Fiction of the Mountain West; her fiction, nonfiction, and poetry has been featured (or is forthcoming from) The Writer’s ChronicleThe Huffington PostThe Utne ReaderStory MagazineDaily Science Fiction, and High Desert Journal, along with many other journals and anthologies. In 2017, The Oregonian named her “One of 25 Oregon Authors Every Oregonian Must Read.”
